- Summary
- For Nagasaki, 2025 is a milestone year marking the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum and the 80th year since the atomic bombing of the city. As a museum located in a city where an atomic bomb was dropped, we are going to hold an exhibition on the theme of war on this occasion.
At the same time, we are also a museum known for our collection of Spanish art. This exhibition will center around The Disasters of War, a series of prints by Francisco de Goya that is in our collection. We hope to show the true face of war shown in the series and ponder the essence of war deduced from it.
The exhibition will also bring together oil paintings from the Museo Nacional del Prado, a Picasso print made during the Spanish Civil War and borrowed from the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and other works concerning war and the atomic bombings in the collections of Japanese museums under one roof. We look forward to seeing you at this exhibition sending out a message of crucial importance from Nagasaki, one of the two Japanese cities that were attacked with an atomic bomb.
